Shahrbanoo Sadat was born in Tehran in 1990 to Afghan refugee parents. Following 11 September 2001, all refugees were expelled from Iran, and so, at the age of eleven, she returned with her parents and siblings to her home village in central Afghanistan. To attend school, Shahrbanoo Sadat had to make a six-hour round trip.
